Jose ‘Peewee’ Salcido signs letter of intent to play at San Diego State University

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA) - One of the Imperial Valley's top baseball players has officially committed to continuing his career at the collegiate level.

Jose "Peewee" Salcido signed his letter of intent Monday, making official his decision to play baseball at San Diego State University following the completion of his senior year at Southwest High School.

The left-handed pitcher and outfielder has been a key contributor to Southwest’s success over the past several seasons, establishing himself as one of the region’s premier two-way players.

According to MaxPreps statistics, Salcido led the Eagles with a .517 batting average during his senior season. He also hit five home runs and drove in 27 runs.

On the mound, he posted a 2.32 earned run average, showcasing his impact both offensively and defensively.

Salcido said San Diego State's campus, facilities and coaching staff played major roles in his decision.

"Yeah, the campus is amazing. The baseball facilities are nice, and the [main] thing is Coach Vance and the coaching staff was amazing. They, they treated me so well, and I felt like it was an easy take...to be at SDSU," Salcido said.

His signing marks the next step in a standout baseball career that has helped elevate Southwest's program.

Salcido will finish his senior year with the Eagles before beginning his collegiate career with the Aztecs.
