SWAT team in Arizona rescue three-year-old boy

GILBERT, Ariz. (NBC, KYMA) - A three-year-old is safe after a harrowing SWAT situation in Gilbert, Arizona, and it was all caught on body cameras.

The Gilbert Police Department (GPD) released bodycam video, showing exactly how tense the final moments were before SWAT went in to get the little boy out safely.

After getting that alarming 911 call, dispatchers alerted Gilbert police officers, who responded to a report of a firearm discharged inside a home.

The caller who wasn't at the scene told dispatchers her three-year-old son was inside.

Police say the suspect, a 40-year-old man, made clear he would not surrender peacefully. That's when GPD's SWAT team was called in to assess the situation.

As things escalated, commanders authorized a crisis entry into the home.

The little boy is safe, and while police haven't released the suspect's name, he remains behind bars, facing multiple felony charges.

Officers at GPD headquarters said this is exactly the kind of outcome they train for getting a child out safely, and getting him out fast.
