Rideshare driver stabbed in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (NBC, KYMA) - A judge ordered the man accused of stabbing an Orlando Uber driver held without bond on an attempted murder charge.

Body camera video captured officers arresting him inside a nearby IHOP restaurant, just blocks from where police found the wounded victim.

By the time the officer wearing a body camera entered the IHOP on East Colonial Drive, Orlando Police already had Jovaughn Matthie cornered at his table.

He eventually lays down on the floor after a K9 officer arrived. Police say they arrested Matthie for the attempted murder of a rideshare driver.

Just before 7 a.m. Eastern Monday, a bystander flagged down on off-duty officer less than a half mile away from the I-hop to report the stabbing.

The arrest report says, "Matthie pulled out a knife and threatened to stab the driver in the heart. Matthie proceeded to stab the driver once in the right chest area and attempted to stab him multiple other times."

After a night in jail, the suspect faced a judge Tuesday afternoon. She offered to appoint a public defender, but Matthie declined.

The identity and condition of the victim are unknown.
