Rhode Island most wanted fugitive captured after 21-year search

RHODE ISLAND, NJ. (NBC, KYMA) - One of Rhode Island's most wanted fugitives is behind bars after escaping more than two decades ago, disappearing while he was on trial for rape.

Federal investigators say Ronald Fischer spent more than two decades on the run, the victim waiting all this time for justice.

Until they tracked him to a 56-foot sailboat named The Silver Lining off the New Jersey coast

Authorities say he was living under the alias Richard Graydon when U.S. Marshals and the Coast Guard intercepted the vessel.

The victim Cheryl Gingerich said, "I was happy when I woke up, because I had slept in my bed last night and Ronald Fisher slept in jail."
