Helicopter rescues Texas man from floodwaters

FREDERICKSBURG, Texas (CBS, KYMA) - A man left stranded by fast-moving floodwaters was rescued by helicopter in central Texas Thursday, video shows.

Footage filmed by Armen Adjarian shows floodwaters encircling him on Texas State Highway 16 at Fredericksburg.

"Quite the pickle, I'm flooded in on both ends…We have just this little patch of highway left," Adjarian says before the footage captures him being picked up by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) helicopter and flown to safety.

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a flash flood emergency for Fredericksburg after a reported 20 to 25 inches of rain fell over south-central Texas within just three days.

Highway 16 was closed Thursday at the Fredericksburg city limits due to flooding, according to the Fredericksburg Police Department (FPD).

"Please avoid the area and stay home if at all possible until conditions improve," FPD said. "Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways—conditions can change quickly, and it only takes a small amount of moving water to sweep a vehicle away."
