House passes bill to make daylight savings time permanent

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that would make daylight savings time permanent nationwide Tuesday afternoon.

The legislation, known as the Sunshine Protection Act, passed with wide bipartisan support by a vote of 308-117.

It would put the U.S. on time currently observed from March to November, unless a state exempted itself before the act took effect.

President Donald Trump has publicly pushed Congress to pass the legislation, and the bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.

Among the states who don't observe daylight savings time are Arizona, Hawaii and various U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
