Sen. McConnell says fall led to hospitalization

(NBC, KYMA) - Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) released a health update and a photo Sunday, after weeks of silence about his hospitalization.

In a hospital bed, the photo shows the senator with a current newspaper in his right hand and his wife Elaine Chao posing with him.

McConnell says he was briefly unconscious, but after a battery of tests he says doctors told him he had no heart attack or stroke.

He says he suffered a fall mid June then a mild case of pneumonia which required medical care.

The 84-year old senator says he is in a rehabilitation center regaining his strength and undergoing more tests to determine the cause of his fall.

McConnell says he is working on senate business with his staff but unable to return to the senate just yet.
