Powerball expands to U.K., first drawing set for later this month

(NBC, KYMA) - The Powerball lottery is expanding across the pond.

People in the United Kingdom will soon be able to buy Powerball lottery tickets following an agreement between the Multi-State Lottery Association and Allwyn U.K., who operates the U.K.'s national lottery.

The idea is to expand the number of players, allowing for faster growing jackpots.

U.K. players will vie for the same jackpot as U.S. Players, but lower tier prizes will be handled differently in the U.K.

However, U.S. players will still pay just $2 and the odd of winning the jackpot will remain at one-in-292.2 million.

The agreement was first announced in April, but lottery officials say the first tickets will be sold in the U.K. on July 21, with the first eligible drawing set for July 22.
