Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding celebrations reportedly underway
NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA) - It looks like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's love story begins a new chapter Friday.
Law enforcement sources tell CBS News the famous couple will have a wedding celebration at Madison Square Garden (MSG) Friday evening that could last well into the morning, and some of Swift's friends were seen at Thursday night's rehearsal dinner.
It was a star-studded rehearsal dinner as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce hosted their nearest and dearest, shielding their arrivals in a giant tent at MSG, amid heavy police presence.
Video shows an SUV believed to be taking Swift to MSG.
Longtime friend and fellow popstar Selena Gomez posted video to her Instagram from the road, seemingly on her way to Thursday's 100-person gathering at Infosys Theater.
The first event triggered major street closures, increased traffic, and pedestrians re-routing their commutes.
"Yeah, we were wondering where our invitation was?" joked Marcella Smith, a Swift fan.
Although the wedding weekend has been shrouded in secrecy, fans gathered outside the venue hoping to catch a glimpse of any details.
Food vendors, giant air conditioning units, and even a bed were spotted.
"We saw some stuff come out of some trucks," said Cristen Donohue, another Swift fan.
"We don't know what it is. At one point, I was convinced they were in one of the boxes, maybe that's how they're getting in," said Brittany McCusker, another Swift fan.
Before the festivities kicked off, Swift and Kelce announced wedding gifts of their own this week, donating at least $26 million to at least 20 charities.
They're giving to food banks, music education programs and children's hospitals in places where the couple has personal ties, from her hometown of Reading, Pennsylvania to Nashville to New York to Kansas City.
Economist Misty Heggeness wrote the book, "Swiftynomics," and she was asked what the $26 million donation says to her.
"I think it just speaks to kind of who they are at the core of their being. You know, they're happy and in love and they wanna spread joy in addition to having a huge party with their friends and family," Heggeness explained.
The big question swirling among those here in New York and around the world: Is Taylor Swift already perhaps married to Travis Kelce?
CBS News doesn't know the answer to that, but they do expect to see a thousand people at MSG for what promises to be a massive celebration.
