Georgia woman who survived lightning strike reunites with paramedics who saved her life

MARIETTA, Ga. (CBS, KYMA) - A 66-year-old woman went into cardiac arrest after being struck by lightning in the parking lot of a church in Marietta, Georgia on May 6, and was revived by fast-acting first responders.

Footage released by the Marietta Police Department (MPD) shows Mary "Jeanne" Menna standing by her open car door in the parking lot of St Joseph Catholic Church when lightning hit her and a nearby tree.

Menna returned to the Marietta church Monday for an emotional reunion to thank the first responders who saved her life during the storm.

Marietta Police Officer Lutfig arrived to the scene first, where he found Menna on the ground with no pulse, according to local news reports.

Lutfig immediately began CPR in the pouring rain and was helped by other first responders who arrived shortly after to take over life-saving measures and utilized a defibrillator to successfully revive Menna.

The 66-year-old told MPD "that her doctors said it was a miracle, and that she has been given a clean bill of health."

"She said she just wants people to know what happened, how her life was saved, and how much she appreciates everyone who responded," officials said.
