San Diego residents rally to support earthquake victims in Venezuela

SAN DIEGO (NBC, KYMA) - In San Diego, people rallied over the weekend to support the earthquake victims in Venezuela.

"I'm overwhelmed at this moment with all the things of what my country is going through," said Criseida Werdenberg, President of Casa de Venezuela San Diego and a pinpoint to many Venezuelans in San Diego.

Though San Diego is on the opposite side of the continent, residents knew they couldn't sit back.

"This is a feeling that I think every Venezuelan around the world is feeling this moment. It's something really hard because also we have to still pretend and go with our daily life," Werdenberg expressed.

As the hours and days pass after the earthquakes, many Venezuelans knew it was a race against time to get aid into their country.

"We are had been in a decline of all of our infrastructure for the last 28 years under this nightmare of of governments or dictatorships that we have had. They are Not allowing this help. The all this, the material that is needed," Werdenberg remarked.

Werdenberg says this has strained many aspects of the country's ability to recover, emphasizing the need for medical supplies and monetary donations which help immediately.

"There are no means for hospitals to really take care of patients. So the community had band together and have supplied the hospitals the best they can," Werdenberg shared.

When asked how Venezuelans finds strength and positivity, Werdenberg said, "That is genetically we are raised that way. And again, I can know something that's something that I cannot explain. But that's certainly is part of our culture. That's part of what we Venezuelans are. We overcome difficulties and we will overcome this to with the help of all the community."
