FIRST ALERT ACTION DAY: Tracking wildfire risk, gusty winds and poor air quality

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Our Weather Authority First Alert Action Day remains in effect Saturday as strong winds, dangerous fire weather conditions and blowing dust continue to impact portions of Yuma and Imperial Counties.

The primary concern today remains the elevated wildfire threat across Yuma County, where a Red Flag Warning continues through 8 p.m. Saturday.

Gusty winds, critically dry conditions and low humidity levels continue to create an environment favorable for rapid fire growth and extreme fire behavior.

Winds across Yuma County are expected to remain breezy throughout the day, with sustained speeds between 20 and 30 mph and gusts frequently reaching 40 mph or higher.

Meanwhile, the Imperial Valley is dealing with a combination of strong winds and reduced air quality concerns.

A Wind Advisory remains in effect for Imperial County from 11 a.m. through 11 p.m. Saturday, as strong west winds move through the region.

An Air Quality Alert remains in effect for Imperial County through Saturday night as dust and particulate matter continue to impact the region.

Despite the windy conditions, temperatures will remain above average across the Desert Southwest. Afternoon highs are expected to reach around 106°F in Yuma and 102°F in El Centro.

Conditions will begin to improve late Saturday into Sunday as winds gradually decrease and temperatures trend closer to seasonal averages. However, residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware through the evening as fire danger and blowing dust concerns continue across the region.
