Utah resident captures scary moment of smoke and ash surrounding his car

EAGLE MOUNTAIN, Utah (CBS, KYMA) - A Utah resident captured the scary moment that smoke and ash from a nearby wildfire lowered visibility on the road while he and his family were driving home last Friday.

Footage captured by David Bobadilla Rios shows what appears to be fog-like smoke rolling over a street before shrouding Rios’s car windows in Eagle Mountain, Utah Friday. Specks of ash could be seen falling on the windows.

"What the heck just happened," Rios could be heard saying in the footage.

Rios said that his neighborhood group chat was sending photographs of a wildfire at a mountain that looked close to his home on Friday evening.

He said that the winds were so strong that their neighborhood thought that the fire could spread closer to them.

Eagle Mountain is several miles northeast of the Iron Fire, which has burned over 37,100 acres across Juab, Utah, and Tooele counties, with 17% containment as of Wednesday, according to Watch Duty.

Other residents reported seeing the Iron Fire from Eagle Mountain Saturday night, and Rios said he could see the fire burning Sunday night as well.
