Contents of second note sent to Nancy Guthrie’s family revealed

WARNING: The contents of the note may be disturbing. Viewer and reader discretion is advised.

(CBS, KYMA) - New details Tuesday morning in the case of Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of Today Show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie.

For the first time, CBS News is revealing the contents of a note Savannah Guthrie referenced in a video recorded February 7, just days after her mother was abducted.

Sources tell CBS News the note, believed to have come from the alleged abductor, claimed Nancy Guthrie was dead.

The message was the second of two notes sent to the family in the first week following Guthrie's abduction on February 1.

The first note was sent one day after a doorbell camera captured a masked man appearing to tamper with the camera in the moment before Guthrie vanished.

It demanded millions of dollars in cryptocurrency in exchange for her safe return.

The Guthrie family responded, initially hopeful she was alive. Instead, the second message arrived.

The family took both notes seriously because they were written in the same language and style and came from the same computer address, according to several sources.

Investigators are treating both notes as credible and are still working to determine who sent them.

In the weeks that followed, video messages from the Guthries that once spoke of their mother's safe return shifted in tone, with Savannah offering a reward of "up to $1 million for any information that leads to her recovery."

It's been 142 days since Guthrie disappeared and not a single tip has led to her or her abductor.

As for the DNA recovered from her home, the crime scene, it is still being analyzed and tested and so far there have been no positive hits.
