BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA) - Brawley senior Ozyel Villanueva has been recognized as one of the top baseball players in the San Diego Section after earning first-team All-CIF San Diego Section honors.

Villanueva helped lead the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the Imperial Valley League, a CIF San Diego Section Division II playoff berth and a postseason victory during an outstanding senior campaign.

At the plate, Villanueva hit .449 with a .577 on-base percentage. He also led all Division II players in the San Diego Section in slugging percentage and runs batted in.

The 6-foot-1 two-way standout was equally dominant on the mound. Villanueva finished the season with a 1.60 earned run average and 103 strikeouts, ranking eighth in the San Diego Section and 40th in California.

His performance throughout the season established him as one of the premier two-way players in the section and capped an impressive senior year for the Wildcats.
