Spiraling funnel cloud whips up dust in central Illinois

MONTROSE, Ill. (CBS, KYMA) - A spiraling funnel cloud was seen whipping up dust in central Illinois Wednesday as weather officials issued a tornado warning for the area.

Footage captured by X user @AidanTPhoto shows an up-close view of the funnel cloud moving across a field in Montrose.

"Close range tornado near Effingham earlier," he wrote in a post on X.

He also posted another video to X, with the caption reading, "Another close range video from the Effingham tornado where the subvorts were clearly visible!"

The National Weather Service issued a warning for a "radar-indicated" tornado in the Montrose area, and said that "quarter-sized" hail was possible.
