Yuma students can receive free sports physicals through summer program

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Student-athletes across Yuma County can get ready for the upcoming school year with the help of free sports physicals being offered through a community partnership this summer.

Exceptional Community Hospital is providing no-cost sports physicals to help students meet athletic eligibility requirements before summer practices begin. The program is open to students throughout Yuma County and is designed to make the required exams more accessible for local families.

School officials say the initiative helps remove financial barriers that can prevent some students from participating in athletics while ensuring they are prepared for the upcoming season.

“This is just a good partnership to have,” Jeff Welsing, Yuma Catholic Athletic Director said. “Especially for the kids that can’t afford one. So they can get down here to Exceptional Community Health and they can get it done. Them offering these for free for the kids is huge. It’s a win for the community, definitely.”

The free sports physicals are available by appointment and will run through August 8. Appointments are being offered Wednesday through Saturday.

Families interested in scheduling a physical are encouraged to contact Exceptional Community Hospital for availability and appointment information.
