Yuma Fight League Brings MMA Action to Marine Corps Air Station

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Yuma Fight League took its latest event to a unique venue, hosting a night of mixed martial arts competition at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma exclusively for service members stationed on base.

The event gave fighters from across the region and beyond the opportunity to compete in front of Marines while showcasing the continued growth of the local promotion.

Inside the cage, athletes put their skills on display in front of an enthusiastic crowd, marking another milestone for Yuma Fight League as it continues to expand its reach with each event.

Among those competing was Marine Corps service member Max Gordillo, who said fighting in front of his fellow Marines made the experience especially meaningful.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” Gordillo said. “I’ve been thinking about this day for almost a year now. I’ve been training almost a year for this, for this moment. And it really means a lot to me.”

The event also featured competitors from outside the Southwest, highlighting the promotion’s growing reputation within the sport.

One fighter came from Dagestan, Russia, a region widely known for producing elite mixed martial artists. For him, competing on an American military base added a unique element to the experience.

“My manager gave me this opportunity and it was great for me to fight here first of all,” he said. “This American Marine base, for me it was something special because I’m not from here. I’m from Dagestan, Russia and you know it’s kind of different for me to be here. To see what’s going on around here. It was an honor for me and I’m proud that’s why I was fighting here.”

The event continued YFL's s efforts to grow mixed martial arts in the region while bringing together athletes from different backgrounds and countries to compete in Yuma.

As the promotion continues to host events, organizers hope to further expand opportunities for local fighters while attracting talent from across the nation and around the world.
