Barney Frank, former U.S. congressman, dies at 86

(CBS, KYMA) - Former Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) has died Wednesday at the age of 86. He had been in hospice care for congestive heart failure at his home in Ogunquit, Maine.

Frank was the first to come out voluntarily and helped normalize being openly gay in public office. In 2012, he married his longtime partner, Jim Ready, at a ceremony in Newton, Massachusetts.

Frank is well-known for being a co-sponsor of the 2010 Dodd-Frank Act, which was the primary legislative response to the 2008 housing crash.

He served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for 32 years where he served as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee from 2007 to 2011.
