Fast-moving brush fire burns in Santa Rosa Island

(NBC, KYMA) - A fast-moving brush fire continues to burn on Santa Rosa Island in Channel Islands National Park.

The wildfire has now scorched more than 10,000 acres after breaking out Friday afternoon on the southern side of Santa Rosa island off the Southern California coast.

Fire crews say the blaze grew rapidly in just a matter of hours, fueled by dense vegetation and strong winds in the area.

At least 70 firefighters and park rangers are battling the fire, which remains at 0% contained as of Monday.

Officials say there are no visitors currently on the island, but two historic structures have already been destroyed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. To keep up-to-date on the fire, click here.
