Weekend overtaken by high winds and polluted air

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - An air quality alert and wind advisory will be in effect this weekend. Although these only cover Imperial County, Yuma County will experience similar conditions to a lesser extent.

The air quality alert kicks in at noon today and runs through midnight on Monday. As for the wind advisory, that will last from 4 p.m. through 11 p.m. tonight.

Gusts are going to range from 20-25 mph during the early afternoon in the Imperial Valley. Yuma County will sit in the 15-20 mph range throughout the same period of time. Winds will kick up another 5mph as soon as 3 p.m. and will persist through 9 p.m. before a slow decline heading into the overnight hours.

We're tracking a similar pattern throughout Sunday, as well.

For temperatures, El Centro is going to clock in at 96°F for highs, while Yuma will hit around 98°F at peak conditions. These should roll into the region around 5 p.m.

Although not recommended due to our high winds and what is tracking to be poor air quality, if you plan on heading outside tonight, temperatures will drop into the 80s around 7:30 p.m.
