Yuma leaders accuse congressmen of supporting polices raising costs for Arizona families

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Yuma leaders are speaking out against congressman Andy Biggs and David Schweikert, accusing them of supporting policies they say are raising gas prices and costs for Arizona families.

Local leaders Carol Smith, Xanthe Bullard and Martin Porchas spoke at a press conference hosted by the Copper State War room.

They called out Biggs and Schweikert for voting against efforts to stop further military action in Iran.

The speakers say the conflict has contributed to higher living costs, impacting families and businesses across Yuma County.

“Families are paying nearly $500 more in transportation costs alone. One of the highest increases in the country. Driven by rising gas prices following the war in Iran, which Biggs and Schweikert support,” said Carol Smith, a Yuma city councilmember.

The event also highlighted a new report claiming Arizona families are paying about $2,200 more each year for goods and services.

Both republican congressmen are currently running for governor of Arizona.

We reached out to both candidates but we have not received a response.
