Nonprofit group sues Trump Administration over repainting reflecting pool on the National Mall

WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - A nonprofit group has sued the Trump Administration Monday to block plans to repaint the reflecting pool on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

President Donald Trump ordered the pool to be painted "American Flag Blue," but papers filed by the Cultural Landscape Foundation say resurfacing the pool is unlawful and want a judge to stop it.

Lawyers argue the original color should be restored until the White House follows congressionally mandated procedures.

Critics of the repainting project say, "The new coloration will cause the pool to resemble a large swimming pool rather than the reflective civic landscape it was designed to be."

President Trump has been directing the work should be done within the next couple of weeks.

The reflecting pool is 104-years-old.
