Sidewinders athletes ink letters of intent

KYMA

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - San Luis held its letter of intent signing day for senior athletes on Friday, with seven students committing to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate and professional levels.

Among the signees was basketball standout Martin Tapia, who will skip college and play professionally with Los Colorados de San Luis in Mexico.

“I’m very excited for my new chapter in Mexico... It’s a professional team, so I’m very excited for the new chapter in my life,” Tapia said.

After strong soccer seasons, teammates Alan Viveros, Yeshua Romo and Jaziel Gonzalez all signed to continue playing together at Gilbert Christian Community College.

“I’m really excited, man. I mean the new program that they’re building right now, it’s amazing and plus I get to be with my friends around in the college playing the sport we love and also studying,” Viveros said.

Their teammate, Diego Torres, will continue his soccer career at Yavapai College.

Softball player Jocelyn Cruz signed with Mesa Community College.

Rounding out the group was Rodrigo Ortega, the Sidewinders’ single-season record holder for goals scored, who will continue his career at Mohave Community College.
