Officers find cocaine in vehicle and stop smuggling attempt at San Diego Ports of Entry

U.S. Customs and Border Protection

SAN DIEGO (KYMA) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers stopped smugglings attempts at two Ports of Entry.

On April 28 at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, CBP officers stopped a 21-year-old man in a Ford-250 and referred him to secondary inspection.

A canine team alerted the officers, who then found 81 packages of cocaine within a spare tire and gas tank.

The cocaine weighed about 225 pounds and had an estimated street value of over $4 million.

On the same day at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, officers stopped a 20-year-old U.S. citizen in a Toyota Camry.

An imaging system found something in the vehicle's dashboard, when officers found a 31-year-old woman hidden inside.

“Smugglers will go to creative and dangerous lengths to move narcotics and people across the border,” said San Diego Director of Field Operations Sidney K. Aki. “But our officers are even more determined. Their commitment to discovering these smuggling attempts, no matter how concealed, is essential to keeping our communities and neighborhoods safe.”
