Tracking triple-digit heat for the Desert Southwest

A ridge of high pressure will be taking over in the Desert Southwest bringing in triple-digit heat starting Friday. Get ready for a very toasty weekend ahead.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA-TV)- Temperatures are already trending warmer than normal this afternoon with highs in the upper 90s. But this will be the last day in the double-digits as we will have triple-digit heat for the next several days.

Temperatures will cool down in the hours ahead, but it will be noticeably warmer.

Overnight lows will drop into the mid and upper 60s by the morning, only to heat up again.

A strong ridge of high pressure will be taking over for the next several days in the region. This will turn-up the heat here in the Desert Southwest making it a toasty weekend ahead. ng up our temperatures very quickly.

Make sure you get your fans rolling to try and stay cool.

An Extreme Heat WATCH has been issued for the western Imperial County, and it includes Ocotillo and Salton City. This will go into effect at 10 a.m. Sunday- 8p.m. Monday for highs between 105-112 degrees.

Temperatures will continue to rise through Mother's Day weekend. Also, tracking plenty of sunshine and light winds for the next several days.

The focus will be on this unseasonable heat and hotter temperatures early next week.

With this round of heat, it will bring moderate heat risks this weekend and major heat risks early next week to the Desert Southwest, so remember to hydrate and stay indoors if you can.

If you are going to be outdoors, take frequent shade breaks. And NEVER leave pets, children, or ANYONE in a parked car at any point of the day.
