GameStop offers to buy eBay for more than $55 billion

(NBC, KYMA) - GameStop has made a massive bid to buy eBay as the video game store offered $55.5 billion for the e-commerce site.

GameStop executives said the goal is to produce a competitor to Amazon. eBay is worth nearly four times as much as GameStop, so it's unclear if the plan will go through.

The offer includes half in cash and half in stock, with funding coming from cash and debt.
