SCOTUS pauses abortion drug block

(NBC, KYMA) - The U.S. Supreme Court paused a lower court's decision Monday, which would have limited the availability of mifepristone, the abortion drug.

Two orders penned by Justice Samuel Alito said the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals will remain on hold until at least May 11.

On Friday, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals granted the state of Louisiana's request to void rules that allowed the medication to be prescribed without an in person meeting.

Those rules allowed mifepristone to be mailed anywhere in the country including states with strict abortion bans.

Monday's decision by the high court will allow justices to consider the next steps in the case.
