‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ wins weekend box office

(CNN, KYMA) - A long-awaited sequel arrived in theaters over the weekend to take on the Michael Jackson biopic.

Neon's "Hokum," a horror film starring Adam Scott, began its run in fifth place, starting out with $6.4 million.

Amazon MGM Studios' "Project Hail Mary," starring Ryan Gosling, is up to $318 million domestically after a fourth-place weekend worth $8.6 million.

Universal Pictures' "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie," the sequel to the 2023 smash hit, took third place with $12.1 million, topping the $400 million mark in the domestic box office.

Lionsgate's "Michael," a biopic on Michael Jackson, lost the top spot, but made $54 million for a 10-day domestic total of $184 million.

20th Century Studios' "The Devil Wears Prada 2," which features Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci reprising their roles respectively, opened strong, racking up $77 million, one of the best debuts of the year so far.
