Matador Wrestling Club battles the nation’s best at the U.S. Open in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — It was a statement weekend for Matador Wrestling Club at the prestigious USA Wrestling US Open, one of the toughest tournaments in the country where the nation’s elite gather to compete for World Team opportunities and measure themselves against the very best.

Facing high-level competition across multiple divisions, Matador Wrestling Club athletes stepped onto the mat with confidence and grit, representing their program with determination from start to finish.

Leading the way was Carolina Moreno, who delivered an impressive performance in the Senior Division, finishing Top 5 and reinforcing her status as one of the top competitors in the country. Her run through the bracket highlighted both skill and resilience against some of the toughest opponents in the field.

The club also saw success from Coach John Torres from Brawley, who secured a 3rd place finish in the Masters Division, showcasing experience and composure in a highly competitive bracket.

Across the age-group divisions, several Matador wrestlers put together strong showings:

  • David Elias (20U) — 4-2 record
  • Roman Jaimes (17U) — 4-2 record
  • Logan Whitacre (20U) — 2-2 record
  • Jovany Camacho (17U) — 2-2 record
  • Gerardo Anaya (20U) — 0-2 record
  • Jose Espinoza (20U) — 0-2 record

While not every result landed on the podium, the weekend was defined by effort, growth, and the willingness to compete against the highest level of talent in the nation.
