Warm now, windy weekend ahead for Yuma area

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Quiet and dry conditions continue across the region, but a noticeable warm-up and increasing winds are on the way as we head into the weekend.

Temperatures will remain near normal through Thursday, with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Skies will feature some high clouds at times, but overall conditions stay calm.

Any chance for rain has diminished significantly, with most areas expected to stay completely dry.

By Friday, temperatures begin to climb into the low to mid 90s, kicking off a hotter pattern across the lower deserts. That warming trend continues into the weekend, with highs reaching the mid to upper 90s.

Along with the heat, winds will become a factor. A system developing along the California coast will tighten the pressure gradient, leading to breezy to windy conditions Saturday and Sunday. Gusts could pick up across the region, especially in open desert areas.

The combination of strong winds and very dry air will increase fire weather concerns this weekend. Humidity levels are expected to drop into the single digits, creating conditions that can allow fires to spread more easily.

Looking ahead, early next week may bring slightly cooler temperatures along with continued breezy conditions as another system moves through the region.
