Former NBA player and coach pleads guilty in gambling probe

(NBC, KYMA) - Former NBA player and coach Damon Jones pleaded guilty Tuesday to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Jones had been accused of sharing information regarding LeBron James and Anthony Davis in what prosecutors said were schemes to rig high stakes poker games and use inside information to make sports bets.

In a New York city courtroom, Jones said, "I would like to sincerely apologize to the court, my family, my peers and also the National Basketball Association."

He is the first to plead guilty in a massive gambling sweep by federal prosecutors that led to the arrests of more than 30 people, including other figures in basketball.

Jones will be sentenced in January and faces up to 27 months in prison.
