Eddie Murphy honored with AFI Life Achievement Award

(CNN, KYMA) - The American Film Institute (AFI) honored actor and comedian Eddie Murphy and his nearly five-decade career Saturday.

The AFI awarded him with the prestigious Life Achievement Award.

Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Martin Lawrence, Bill Burr, Mike Myers and more served as guest speakers during the ceremony.

Recent recipients of the award include Francis Ford Coppola, Nicole Kidman and Julie Andrews.

"It's all hitters on this list. It's a great, it's a great, great feeling, wonderful honor. Thousands of people have Oscars, but only a few people have this one. And this is recognizing your whole body of work and uh it's just a great thing. I mean this is, this says you've been doing it for a while and you're still and you're not stinky."

This year's event raised more than $2.5 million to support the AFI non-profit, and Netflix will stream the ceremony starting May 31.
