Federal judge orders the White House ballroom contract to be made public

(NBC, KYMA) - A federal judge has ordered the contract for the new White House ballroom be made public.

Monday's ruling gives the Trump Administration two weeks to turn over the 14-page contract between the National Park Service, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the White House.

The ruling is the result of a Freedom of Information Act request about the planned East Wing modernization project.

Progressive advocacy group Public Citizen submitted the request in October, the same month the East Wing was demolished to make room for the $400 million ballroom project.

They filed a lawsuit in December after repeated attempts to inquire on a timeline for the request went unanswered.

The government must produce the contract to Public Citizen, or provide a declaration explaining why the contract cannot be produced, by April 20.
