CNN to host debate for crowded California governor’s race

(CNN, KYMA) - CNN will host a debate next month for the candidates in California's governor's race.

The debate will take place May 5 in the Los Angeles area, and will be moderated by CNN anchors Elex Michaelson and Kaitlan Collins.

California's governor's race is a crowded one as there are currently eight candidates running:

The long list of names is causing growing anxiety among California Democrats.

The state holds non-partisan primaries, meaning the two candidates receiving the most votes will advance to the General Election, regardless of party affiliation.

If Democrats split the vote, it could pave the way for two Republican candidates to advance, resulting in a Donald Trump-aligned governor in the state.

California voted against President Trump in the 2024 presidential election by more than 20-percentage points.

The Primary Election will be June 2.
