City in Michigan hosts ‘Great Marshmallow Drop’

ROYAL OAK, Mich. (CBS, KYMA) - City officials hosted "The Great Marshmallow Drop" in Royal Oak, Michigan Friday to celebrate the Easter weekend.

Footage released by the city shows helicopters dropping marshmallows over Worden Park on Friday, sending children racing to collect them.

According to news reports, about 15,000 marshmallows were dropped from the sky during the event.

"The weather came through just in time—and the helicopters were able to make the drop," officials wrote in a Facebook comment. "Nothing beats seeing all those kids looking up and then racing for marshmallows."

Kids were able to trade the marshmallows they collected for prizes, news reports said.
