Hit and run crashes reach record high, AAA says

(CNN, KYMA) - A new report from AAA reveals a frightening statistic as 15% of all reported vehicle crashes in 2023 involved a driver who fled the scene.

That's a record high, and the number is even higher when a pedestrian or cyclist is killed.

In those cases, one in four drivers left without reporting the crash. That makes it take longer for victims to receive help.

The motor club says most of these crashes happen when it's dark outside and there are no witnesses.
