Kyler Murray officially released by Arizona, being pursued by Minnesota

Murray to visit Vikings on Thursday

GLENDALE, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Arizona Cardinals officially moved on from quarterback Kyler Murray on Wednesday as the new NFL league year began.

Arizona released the former No. 1 overall pick after seven seasons with the franchise, making Murray an unrestricted free agent. Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort thanked Murray in a statement, expressing appreciation for the quarterback’s time with the organization.

Following his release, reports indicated that Murray could quickly draw interest from several teams. According to reports from Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Murray is expected to visit the Minnesota Vikings and undergo a physical, fueling speculation that Minnesota could be a leading candidate to sign the 28-year-old quarterback.

Murray’s departure also highlights a broader trend across the league. Of the 29 quarterbacks selected in the first round of the NFL Draft between 2010 and 2019, only three remain with the teams that originally drafted them: Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs.

With Murray no longer on the roster, the Cardinals’ current quarterback depth chart includes Jacoby Brissett, Gardner Minshew and Kedon Slovis. Brissett is widely expected to enter the 2026 season as Arizona’s starting quarterback.
