Paramount Skydance announces plans to combine HBO Max and Paramount+

(KYMA, NBC) - Paramount Skydance announced plans to combine HBO Max and Paramount+ during an investors call Monday, according to NBC News.

This comes a few days after Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) and Paramount signed a merger agreement after WBD's deal with Netflix fell through.

During the call, Paramount CEO David Ellison did not reveal a name or pricing for the streamer, and said the combination would take place "over the coming years."

NBC News also said Ellison provided a glimpse of his plans once the WBD-Paramount deal is closed.

One of those plans is to release 30 films a year, with WBD and Paramount each releasing 15 films, with the films having a 45-day theatrical window before being set to streaming.

Ellison also said HBO will continue to have creative independence saying, "HBO should stay HBO," according to NBC News.

Ellison and other Paramount executives, according to NBC News, said there are no plans to spin-off or divest channels under the WBD banner, like TNT and TBS.

The WBD-Paramount deal is expected to close within six to 12 months. Any deal would require approval from federal regulators, a process President Donald Trump has indicted multiple times that he would be personally involved.
