Arizona suffers first loss of season against ninth-ranked Kansas

Down goes the No. 1 seed

LAWRENCE, Kan. (KYMA) - The ninth-ranked Kansas Jayhawks knocked off the nation's top team Tuesday night, handing the No. 1 Wildcats their first loss of the season with an 82–78 win in Lawrence at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Wildcats were without Darryn Peterson, one of the projected top picks in the upcoming NBA draft, after he was ruled out roughly 10 minutes before tipoff due to illness. His absence, however, did little to slow down Kansas.

Flory Bidunga led the Jayhawks with 23 points and 10 rebounds, posting a double-double to pace the offense. Melvin Council added 23 points of his own and was nearly perfect at the free-throw line, going 10-for-11 from the charity stripe.

For the Wildcats, Brayden Burries finished with a team-high 25 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Kansas' balanced attack. The loss marked the first of the season for the previously unbeaten Wildcats.
