Elderly man rescued from forest in California after wandering from his home

PLUMAS COUNTY, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - An elderly man was rescued from a forest in Northern California in the early hours of Monday after wandering from his home.

Footage released by Plumas County Search and Rescue (PCSAR) shows crews helping the 75-year-old man into a vehicle after successfully locating him in a forest north of Quincy, about 144 miles northwest of Sacramento.

In a Facebook post, PCSAR said they were paged to search for the man after he had wandered from his home and had not returned before dark.

"He was reported to be checking his property, and was possibly confused. The report was concerning because of the rain during the night, low temperature, and the man reportedly not wearing warm clothing," PCSAR wrote.

Crews searched the area for over three hours before finding him in an area of "thick manzanita brush."

"He was cold, wet, confused, and physically very weak. SAR was able to walk him about half an hour down through the forest to a vehicle, which took him back to his home. His family was extremely thankful," PCSAR said.
