Police confront Minneapolis residents at community roadblock

MINNEAPOLIS (CBS, KYMA) - Police were seen asking locals to remove an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) roadblock in Minneapolis on January 31.

Video captured by X user Minneapolis Spring shows officers speaking with a group of residents at the "community-driven checkpoint," telling them that fire trucks and ambulances would need to be able to pass through the blockade.

One person in the crowd responded that buses had already been passing through, while another said the group would move the checkpoint if emergency vehicles needed access. The officers then walk back to their vehicles.

"Police have left. The community proves stronger than feds once again," Minneapolis Spring wrote in a follow-up post on X.

City officials addressed the roadblocks on Monday, according to CBS Minnesota.

"Given the high-traffic and high-speed block of roadways on Cedar Ave, the city cleared the streets to ensure public safety for the neighborhoods and emergency vehicles," the statement read.
