Partial government shutdown on the horizon following Minneapolis shooting

(CNN, KYMA) - A partial shutdown of the federal government could be on the horizon as sentiments are growing among Democratic lawmakers to reject a bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
This weekend's deadly shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti, a U.S. citizen, by ICE agents gave the movement more steam.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said his caucus won't give the measure the 60 votes it needs in its current form.
If that happens, the Departments of Defense, Transportation, Education, Health and Human Services, and Housing and Urban Development would also shut down.
Some senators have suggested decoupling DHS from other departments and creating a funding bill just for it.
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle are reportedly working on possible options to avoid another shutdown.
The deadline to avoid a shutdown is Friday.
