‘Mercy’ defeats ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ at the weekend box office

(CNN, KYMA) - The massive winter storm affecting much of the U.S. kept a lot of people at home, but some still made it to the multiplex to catch a movie.
Sony's "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" fell from second to fifth place in its sophomore weekend, grossing $3.6 million.
Lionsgate's "The Housemaid" starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried took in $4.2 million to stay in fourth place.
Disney's "Zootopia 2" made $5.7 million, remaining in third place and topping $400 million domestically.
After five weekends on top, 20th Century Studios' "Avatar: Fire and Ash" finally lost the crown, dropping to second place, but $7 million pushed its domestic total past $378 million.
Amazon MGM Studios' "Mercy" starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson is the new number one movie as the sci-fi thriller debuted at $11 million.
Pratt plays a detective pleading his innocence before an AI judge, played by Ferguson.
