Sen. Amy Klobuchar files paperwork to run for governor of Minnesota

(NBC, KYMA) - Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) has filed preliminary paperwork to run for governor in Minnesota.

According to the state's Campaign Finance Board, Sen. Klobuchar registered as a potential candidate Thursday.

A source close to the senator says this is a preliminary step necessary for any candidate considering a run, and the senator will make an announcement of her plans in the coming days.

Klobuchar has served Minnesota in the Senate since 2007.

She ran for president in the 2020 Democratic primary, before dropping out to endorse Joe Biden.

Her registration comes after sitting Gov. Tim Walz (D-Minn.) announced he would not seek re-election, citing heightened attention to his office's response to fraud allegations among childcare centers in the state.
