Cibola girls basketball rolls past Kofa

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Cibola Raiders girls basketball team continued its strong start to region play with a dominant 71–21 win over the Kofa Kings on Tuesday at Raider Gym.

Cibola entered the matchup at 11–10 overall and 2–0 in region play, while Kofa was looking to bounce back after a tough loss at Maryvale, coming in at 5–7 on the season. From the opening tip, the Raiders set the tone on both ends of the floor and never looked back.

Lucy Nielsen jump-started the Raiders early with her defense, turning steals into easy offense. Nielsen finished with six points, six assists, and a game-high seven steals as Cibola built a commanding lead and stayed ahead by 30 points or more for much of the night.

Elisa Molina led all scorers with 18 points, showcasing her scoring touch throughout the game. Molina also added three steals in another all-around performance.

Cibola’s depth was on full display, with multiple Raiders contributing. Kelvin Faulks chipped in 12 points, six rebounds, and four steals, while Lexi Stuebs added 11 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Brayleigh Stuebs rounded out the balanced scoring with 10 points, including a deep three-pointer late in the game that capped a dominant second half for the Raiders.

Kofa continued to compete despite the deficit and found some success late. Ziyann Hicks finished with seven points, highlighted by a coast-to-coast layup and three-point play. Michelle Noriega also scored seven points for the Kings, using her physicality on the boards to create second-chance opportunities.

In the end, Cibola’s pressure defense and balanced scoring proved too much, as the Raiders cruised to the 71–21 victory. The win improves Cibola to 12–10 on the season and keeps them unbeaten in region play as they look ahead toward the postseason.

After the game, Raiders head coach Scott Nielsen spoke about his team’s dominant performance and what makes this group dangerous heading into postseason play.
