David Beckham speaks out amid growing family feud
NEW YORK (CBS, KYMA) - David Beckham is speaking out amid a growing family feud as his son, Brooklyn, blasted his parents on social media.
He accused David and Victoria Beckham of undermining his marriage to actress Nicola Peltz.
"They make mistakes. Children are allowed to make mistakes," Beckham said, acknowledging his kids have erred online Tuesday just hours after his eldest son posted a lengthy statement on Instagram, accusing his parents of valuing "public promotion" over the family.
"I try to teach my kids. You have to sometimes let them make those mistakes as well," Beckham remarked.
After years of speculation about a family feud, the 26-year-old broke his silence Monday saying, "I do not want to reconcile with my family," claiming his parents have controlled him for years.
Brooklyn also wrote that the family "consistently disrespected" his wife.
The Beckham family has been in the spotlight for decades, with David being one of the most well-known soccer players in recent history, and Victoria being a former Spice Girl. They married in 1999.
In a recent Netflix docuseries, the pair discussed their careers and starting a family.
"The moment he came out, I all of a sudden thought, 'How am I gonna protect him? What am I gonna do to protect him?'" Beckham expressed.
CBS News has reached out to the Beckhams for comment, but has yet to respond.
