Valentino, iconic fashion designer, dies at 93
(NBC, KYMA) - Iconic fashion designer Valentino Garavani has died.
In a post to social media, his foundation announced Monday that he passed away at his home in Rome.
The statement went on to read, "Valentino Garavani was not only a constant guide and inspiration for all of us, but a true source of light, creativity and vision."
Universally known by his first name, Valentino's work graced the runways and red carpets of the world for nearly half a century.
His designs were a favorite among the likes of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis, and movie stars such as Julia Roberts and Cate Blanchett, and any number of celebrities in between.
He began his design career in the 1960s and retired in 2008.
Valentino's foundation says his body will lie in repose at its headquarters in Rome Wednesday and Thursday before his funeral Friday.
Valentino was 93-years-old.
