San Luis, Mexico residents question low homicide rate claim by Sonora governor

SAN LUIS, Mexico (KYMA) - The governor of Sonora said the homicide rate went down to 95% in San Luis, Mexico.
But some locals are questioning that big drop.
“We have achieved a reduction of 95% the homicide rate," said Gov. Alfonso Durazo, State of Sonora.
Locals we spoke to didn’t agree and believe it can still be unsafe.
“He miscalculated it, probably 5%. The crime is still nonstop. There’s a lot insecurity in the state and here in San Luis," said Arisbel Mendoza, San Luis, Mexico resident.
“It has increased. It’s getting worse everyday. We can’t go out on the streets," said Agustin Padilla, another resident.
“ I don’t think so. My friends who lived by the city limits they moved to the us or in town because there are a lot of shootings and robberies," said Rafael Garcia.
Some locals says it's worse than they've seen in years.
“I never seen so much violence in last six or seven years," said Mendioza.
“Here in town is ok but by the outer area, it’s very tough," said Garcia.
The last two months saw seven homicides.
The governor says he will continue to work with federal and local law enforcement to keep the community safe.
