Motorists in California navigate flooded highway

REDDING, Calif. (CBS, KYMA) - Motorists were forced to navigate inundated roadways as flash flooding rocked Redding, California Sunday.

Footage posted to Facebook by Bianca Golenor shows the dangerous conditions on I-5 northbound, just before the Cypress Ave exit, at about 5:20 p.m. Pacific.

The Redding Police Department urged motorists to use "extreme caution" as heavy rainfall had caused flooding on multiple roadways throughout the city.

"Several lanes are currently impassable, and conditions may continue to change rapidly. We are receiving numerous calls for stranded motorists who attempted to drive through flooded areas," it said. "Please remember: Turn around, don’t risk it. Even shallow water can stall your vehicle, sweep it off the roadway, or create dangerous situations for you and first responders."
